3 easy diy cocktails

I always try to keep my entertaining as simple as possible so that I’m not stressed out and can truly enjoy my time with my family and friends.  So I try to make cocktails with a few basic ingredients that I usually have at home or can quickly pick up from the grocery store.  I’m not a big drinker or drink often at all, but I do try to keep a very basic bar stocked.  I usually have some wines ready to open.  Other than that, I try to keep handy some vodka, rum, Grand Marnier, a cream liquor (right now I have Forty Creek Cream Liquor).  Then all I need to do is just add a few other ingredients like some ginger ale, club soda and a few fruit juices, and there you have it…a great signature DIY cocktail for my guests!  For your next get together, try these quick to make cocktails.

Mango Rum Delight

What you need:

  • 2 ounces rum
  • ½ ounce Grand Marnier
  • 4 ounces mango juice
  • 2 ounces pineapple juice
  • Squeeze of lime

In a shaker, add ice and all of the ingredients listed.  Shake well so that all the ingredients blend nicely and the drink becomes cold.  Pour into a tall glass and add a garnish like a mango or pineapple slice.

Blazing Blueberry Vodka Cocktail

What you need:

  • 2 ounces vodka
  • ½ ounce blueberry pancake liquor
  • 1-2 teaspoons lemon juice
  • 10-15 fresh blueberries
  • 1 tablespoon honey
  • A squeeze of lemon

In a shaker add the fresh blueberries and muddle them to release the fruit juices.  Add ice and all of the remaining ingredients.  Shake well so that all of the ingredients blend together.  Strain into a short glass.  You may want to strain the drink a second time through a sieve so that the drink is clear from the muddled blueberry pieces.  Add a few fresh blueberries to the glass for garnish.

Pineapple Rum Tropical Drink

What you need:

  • 2 ounces rum
  • 1 ounce cream liquor (ie: Fort Creek Cream Liquor)
  • 4 ounces pineapple juice

In a shaker, add ice and all of the listed ingredients.  Shake well to blend the ingredients and to make the drink cold.  Pour into a tall glass.  Add a pineapple slice to the rim of the glass as a garnish.  You may wish to add a little of grenadine to make the drink look more colourful.

Other Tips When Making Easy DIY Cocktails:

  • Add 2-3 different types of glasses to your collection (short and tall)
  • Have on hand different coloured napkins, straws, party picks and stirrers
  • Reduce the alcohol measurements by ½ to 1 ounce if you prefer a weaker drink
  • Think about adding fruit slices and/or peels, or fresh mint into your cocktails to make them pretty
  • Pick up ice cube trays in different shapes to add a unique touch (freeze some colored juices in ice trays to add colour to the cocktail).
